Before purchasing this splash guard I had an old one that was producing smoke when I placed it over pots and causing a blackout/fire on the shield where it was came into contact with it frying pan. I assumed it was because it was old and possibly cheap so I threw it away and started looking for a replacement. I chose this one based on size and reviews. Was very surprised and disappointed when I first used this one and it made the same smoke and burn stain. I'm not sure if there's an art of using them that I've missed, but I'm not happy with the results when I used these. (I've already tried lowering the heat on the stove and turning it over so the raised side is on the pan.) Didn't try to return it as I threw away the packaging when I got it - such a plain one thing, I thought. . Also, the burn marks give the impression that I use it 24/7. The only positives were the size and the relatively low price. Still, it's a waste of money. If it had been cheaper, say $5-7, I would have kept my review to myself and chalked it up as cheap.
