This does not convert to 5.1 on a receiver. I have a Pioneer receiver with 2 front, 2 surround and a Center speaker. I connect the 3 leads from my computer, to this "converter" , then RCA cables from the "converter" to my receiver. After configuring my sound for 5.1 and verifying all proper settings, all the various speaker test sounds come from the Front 2 speakers. So, this thing is pointless. If you only want Stereo sound, then just get some decent Bose speakers and connect them to your PC.Do not get this thing if you think your going to get 5.1 surround out of all of your speakers.
