Review on Optical Quantum OQBDR06LT-50 6X 25 GB BD-R Single Layer Blu-Ray Recordable Blank Media: High-Quality Logo Top, 50-Disc Spindle for Superior Data Storage by Shane Jenkins

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The disc rots in less than 2.5 years.

I bought the first batch of Optical Quantum in March 2017 and burned it. zero coasters. Looks good. Bought 10 more spindles. Stored cool and dark. Singapore has high humidity, so I kept a disposable dehumidifier in my closet. Sometimes I put the disc back into the computer to review or copy some video files. Well, until this month, August 2019, I had to get some important files. Those were files from my old phone which I no longer have. At first the drive read the disc normally, but halfway through the drive froze. Disc for visual inspection. To my dismay almost half of the disc was rotted. Then I check the remaining disks. Many of them show varying degrees of disc rot. I number the slabs consecutively and the level of rot is highest on the previously fired slab. The rot seems to appear only on burned areas and always starts from the outside in. Rotten parts appear lighter. I suspect that the aluminum reflective layer is oxidized. Long story short, I spent the next few sleepless nights migrating my BDs back to hard drives en masse. Look for other sources of lost data. Luckily I found an old forgotten hard drive that contains most of my important files. I've since bought another hard drive to back this up. Overall I am very disappointed with the quality. 11 spindle Optical Quantum in the wind. It's more than 200 dollars. For me there are no more cheap brands. I give it 2 stars because the discs can last 2 years. I suspect some people are still using a 2 year old disc.
