Review on πŸ’¨ Corsair CMFVYGS3B-512GB Flash Voyager GS 512GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive: Unparalleled Storage and Lightning-Fast Transfer Speeds! by Kevin Swier

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Hard drive, relatively slow write speed (faster with the right file system!).

TIP: For better performance, use exFAT for Windows and Linux computers. I was able to achieve good write speeds with F2FS or BTRFS with the ssd_spread mount option. After enabling these filesystems/settings, this device works surprisingly well! Reliable disc, appears to be very durable. I've been looking for a high capacity (256GB+) USB flash drive with good performance for a long time, but I haven't found this unicorn yet. The drive has an average read speed of 197 MB/s and write speed of 20 MB/s after loading 350 GB on Linux (kernel 4.6.2) on properly supported USB 3.0 ports (XHCI driver on AMD, Intel and ASMedia). chipsets were written). I was actually expecting a write speed of around 80MB/s, at least based on the price and the hype/manufacturer claims. It turns out that the recording is very slow, but! Compared to other drives, that's really acceptable. However, it is no comparison to a self-made USB drive from an M.2 SSD and a USB 3.0 adapter. Very disappointed that USB drives are left behind (some are now powered by an SSD controller, including Corsair's). At this point I'm even considering buying a high capacity/speed SD card with a USB 3.0 reader. I'm sticking with the drive because it's compact, doesn't require any additional cables (although its width does block other ports nearby), and the chassis is solid.
