Review on Universal Motorcycle Hydraulic Handlebar Reservoir by Ronnie Toups

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The handles are irregularly shaped and will self-destruct.

I had some trouble installing them as the handles aren't the right shape. At settings 1-3 the grip goes through where the bar is (i.e. you hit the bar before going through the stroke) forcing you to use higher settings and these leave it in one sticking out at an odd angle, not quite parallel to the steering wheel. The half clamp on the brake side is not round and does not match the handlebar. You will need to grind/file it to fit. If you don't do this, you can damage the cast. I've already broken one of the half clamps trying to tighten it enough so it doesn't dangle because if it does. Half brackets are also cast and somewhat fragile. I think if you ever have an accident they will break and your grip will dangle while you try to back up. The square-profile brake levers aren't as comfortable as the mixed originals. The grip moves right to the center of the handlebar. I have another set that is off axis and the rod is more tangential on the top. As a result, the handle is too close to the hand when pressed. This set does not have this problem. The processing (except for the area of the molded half of the clamp) looks good and the handle does not wobble too much. I also noticed that the rubber dust seal on the cylinder piston presses, but not as hard as the others. The mirror thread is the correct left-hand thread on the right handle. Ultimately, I cannot recommend them. You have to machine half the clamp area of the bar to actually fit and the grip design requires some work. Update: I've had them installed for a few days. It took me a lot of pumps to get the air out of the system and they feel like metal rubbing against metal and it gradually gets harder to pull. In addition, the brake fluid darkens due to contamination. Something is wrong with them and I haven't even used them. Very disappointed. I bought a second set for another bike, at the same time it was half the price of this set. They feel comfortable when inflated (but have their own issues, such as right-hand threads for both handles).
