My 3 year old son loves this train. He's fun to play with, but he's not perfect. The great thing: - Requires only one AA battery, which is relatively easy to replace. - nice LED light - powerful enough to pull a long train What could be better: - the buttons are not so easy to press for the little ones - the train is higher than many bridges and tunnels in the standard Brio set - it will often get stuck on climbs and descents - only one axle rotates so sometimes having to reverse hills or pull certain trains on the climb - slightly overpriced for what you get. Another thing I want to mention that didn't occur to me - part of Brio's magic is the idea of making moves yourself. I found that as soon as I introduced the battery motor, my son stopped using his old motors. This might be new with a new engine in the works, but it might be something to consider as unpowered Brios are just as delightful as they come. I feel like there is no turning back once motorized trains are introduced.
