I would recommend vibrating instead of shocking to get their attention.
We only use this device for vibration and sound. It grabs our dogs attention very well without the harsher alternatives. I would recommend this collar for training and obedience. It also has a large collar that we can use with our boxer and our mini pin, we just tuck in the extra length.
