I had an issue with tree roots getting into a 4" landscape drain pipe. I contacted a local company to see what to do with finding my whistle and they advised charging at least $480 for shipping. Then I started looking for drain pipe locating tools, all of which cost even more than my local pipe locator. I took a 12/2WG wire and straightened the tip to catch all the roots and the other end of the wire I connected to the tool's neutral wire and grounded it with a long screwdriver stuck on the hot side of the tool, turned on the wire finder and followed the sound of the wire to the end of the wire where it met the roots. went in a completely different direction than I ever expected. It turned out to be connected to another distant pipe by a tee. This tool saved me from digging up my lawn and making a mess before I can find the damaged portion of my downspout. Hours and money saved.
