This adapter is more expensive than what I was looking for, but also more powerful. I wanted an adapter that would allow me to use the Thunderbolt 3 port to connect an HDMI cable so I could watch videos on my TV. It does. Also, I can use the same Thunderbolt port to connect a wired Ethernet connection and two USB 3.0 devices. This allows me to set up my laptop with a large monitor, an external mouse, an external keyboard, and a wired internet connection. Pretty good throughput for a small port. For newer laptops without an HDMI port and with fewer ports of any kind, this adapter will come in handy. He's taller than I would like, but I think he should be able to handle anything. The case looks good, as does the whole device. Thank you StarTech Support. When I received the device I wanted to try it and thought it didn't work. My laptop didn't register the new device when I connected it. And I thought there was a tiny LED in its connector, but that LED didn't light up. So I called support to ask what happened. The adapter turned out to work fine. There is no power indicator and the laptop doesn't register anything until you plug in a device. When the support rep told me to try an external mouse, it worked right away. I felt stupid, but at least I know that StarTech's customer support is very good.
