In my case I just want an inexpensive cordless phone for my garage so I don't have to rush home to answer the phone. While I don't care too much about the ringing (between the handle and the base), the manual installation still works well, even when I was two houses away in a neighbor's garage. Clarity is decent and you can hear word after word clearly (I had the volume turned down to the lowest level). The programming and all the functions are quite easy (if you read the instructions). A minor gripe is the LED display, the backlight is a bit dim and a bit small for my aging eyesight (between near and far combo - no deductions from my phone review).
