Good product. Worth the extra cost.

Excellent product. The picture is clear. I have an extra reversing light and have replaced the standard reversing lights with high power LEDs, but the IR light would do a good picture even without them! Installation is moderately difficult if you have a stock Jeep with OEM parts, but is easy and takes 4 hours if you are experienced. Do not purchase trim removal tools if you do not want to scratch the trim. The written instructions are poor and the power connector part unusable. Several good videos on YouTube with step-by-step description. The only problem is that every year Jeep changes a bit, including the part of the dashboard that needs to be removed. Find a video next to your year. My biggest issue which added 3 hours to my setup was my AEV spare wheel holder for my 35" wheel and the AEV spare gas tank integrated into the holder. Essentially, this tank had to be removed, mostly backwards, to route the camera cable through a very narrow groove from the side of the tire to the side of the tailgate. Make sure you do not route the cable through the center of the included bracket as it will pinch when mounting the tire and will void your warranty. The videos state that the camera cable is difficult to pull out through the back door. But my 13 Rubicon Unlimited had a spare grommet on the end of the tailgate and it was easy to thread the wire through it into the inner wire hole. Another hint. They offer sufficient cable length. I mothballed it first by running it through the back door along the flexible cable cover for other cables and then tucking it behind the cover that held the subwoofer in my year. The problem I noticed upon completion was that the short section between the end of the trim on the tailgate and the transition into the solid subwoofer area contained a larger hard piece about two inches long. When I closed the back door, the camera cable was always kinked at the end of this section. In the end it will probably fail. Since there were a lot of wires I went back and cut all my zip ties, pulled the door panel and pulled the cable back about 6 inches which allowed me to move that hard area back under the tailgate skin leaving a straight flex cable around the Make transition between tailgate and body. As for connecting the power, I followed the videos and connected to the switched power connector. Written instructions require you to find a misunderstood wire in a bundle of 30 in the passenger footwell. The wiring provided is not configured for reverse connection with this connection. The difference is that with a switchable power connector, the camera will have power whenever the dongle is powered on, but will only show up if you flip it in the opposite direction. Written directions turn on the camera only when reversing. If it was a wish, they could put it back in the reverse light wiring harness. Finally, the software module you plug into the OBD socket didn't produce the two beeps that the video states. In my case, they were small blue LEDs that blinked during programming and turned green when everything was ready. At this point you can remove it and program the radio. Much luck. i love the camera Just finished installing. Will be updated after some experience!

Pros
  • The CMOS infrared camera system provides bright and clear images, even when reversing in poor light conditions.
Cons
  • Hard to say.
