We bought this black backpack for one of our 7 year old twins who is in second grade. We chose the small size because it is petite. The backpack is sturdy and of high quality, especially for the price. There are three pockets and the small size does NOT have a tiny front pocket as shown, but she won't need it (large size has a small front pocket). Holds quite a lot. I put a 1.5 inch binder, a large workbook, a thin spiral notebook and a few small notebooks in the large pocket, a lunch bag in the middle pocket, and a few thin items in the front pocket. Each side mesh pocket holds a bottle, e.g. B. Standard bottled water or Nalgene Grip-N-Gulp. include photos of the large (pink/grey) and small (black) side by side for comparison. Our other twin who is 46 inches tall and weighs 43 pounds will wear a size plus but to be honest big and small are so alike that either size will fit any girl.
