Review on MERKUR MK 78C Adjustable Double Safety by Nagasree Monee

The best shave among razors and blades

I have been shaving for 55 years. I started with a Gillette dual blade razor and then moved on to 2, 3, 4 and finally a Gillette 5 blade cartridge with smears on a dual head razor. The shave was good, the cartridge lasted two weeks in the double shave technique (forwards and backwards). A cartridge with 5 blades costs between $3.50 and $5 depending on the discount. Recently I was visiting a friend who has been my shaving guru for many years. He was promoting a double-edged safety razor from Q-shave using either their blades or the sharper Merkur blades or Japanese feather blades. I ordered the Q shaving kit and my first shave was the smoothest, most comfortable shave I've ever had without a single nick. I used setting 5. My friend said that the German razor is about 2.5 times more expensive and is not needed. As I needed to replace my silver tip brush, I was looking for a new matching brush, stand and shaving set. A set of three Merkur Futur razors with a bright chrome finish was perfect. The razor has a much better design and gentler setting than its Chinese counterpart. In combination with a Japanese spring blade I shave even better than with the Q blade. I had to lower the seeding to 4 as these blades are sharper. Haven't tried the German blade yet, but at $23 for 100 feather blades, I have a few years' supply. To prolong the life of your blade, dry it completely with a towel or blow dryer after each shave. The brush may feel a little flimsy at first, but the bristles swell up after the first use. Even if it is a bit expensive, I am very satisfied with the Futur razor set. I gifted all my 5 blade cartridges to my wife.
