This is a great toy for a kid to develop early visual thinking with an easy to follow photo reference guide book. My 5 year's old boy had no difficulty to setup and follow the guide book and play independantly without help from mommy or daddy. I would note that the base or track platform (4 pieces) does require some parental strength to snap them together or take it apart. The best feature is the train/bulldoser does not require batteries - which was a hugh factor in my decision to purchasing this toy.I only wish there were more track pieces available or an expansion to increase the size to further develop my son's own creativity in designing his own desired track routes. However, due to the fact it doesn't run on batteries, I can understand the limitation of the size as there is a limit to how far the train can travel on its own. I do want to comment, my son did play more by using his hands to push and move the train instead of winding it back to let it move on its own. Everyone has their own way of playing.
