IT Pro Review: The Best Printers

First, the cost of this printer is a bit high given the print quality, the software that comes with the printer, and the setup required and running. It's nice to have ink tanks instead of constantly popping in cartridges. However, Epson needs to improve a few things. First, the printer does not come with software. These all need to be uploaded to Epson.com. The software, once installed, is very limited in what it can do or can even interact with other programs to complete print jobs. Second, this printer is NOT intended for the knowledgeable, low IQ consumer. It does require some IT skills to get this printer up and running, but if you have the technical knowledge, once set up this printer is pretty handy for a variety of uses. The scanner works reasonably well, but the scanning software is really outdated and there are a few steps to follow to properly scan anything in .pdf or any other format. All in all, a certain level of technical understanding is required to take full advantage of the features of this printer. It can use improved, updated interface software, but will deliver fairly decent print jobs when set up properly. Keep in mind that this printer is not for those who need a plug and play printer. If you want I would suggest looking at Canon. The touch screen is suitable for this printer and the user can perform most of the tasks with the touch screen function. It's quite small and if your vision requires bifocals, it can be difficult to read. Fortunately, it lights up and has a color screen. Overall, this is an inexpensive printer, but its setup and software can be problematic, which could put anyone off buying this printer. I didn't have to contact Epson with any of the problem areas setting up and running the printer, so I can't say how reliable Epson will be in terms of customer support. I hope this review helps everyone in their purchasing decision. I forgot one thing. If you plan to use this printer on a Wi-Fi network, make sure you go to your router and set a static IP address for your printer if you are using an Ethernet cable or Wi-Fi configuration. You will lose connection to the printer if you don't assign it a static IP address.
