Review on ๐Ÿญ Niteangel Expanded Living Space - MDF Aspen Cage for Hamsters, Degus, Mices, and Similar-Sized Pets by Haley Sammons

Beautiful but a little disappointed

This case is large (well above the recommended minimum as it should be!) and the Niteangel products are fantastic. I bought a medium size for my dwarf hamster and it is definitely larger than the 40 gallon breeding cage he currently lives in. There is a big hole at the top. Mice could not use this enclosure, nor gerbils or larger Syrians who chew. I also have a Syrian hamster and she eventually chews through with no problem. The floor and walls don't exactly match, essentially being held in tension with rubber bands and notches, leaving gaps that my Syrian will slowly pick out. I had to use aquarium caulking in all seams as the paper tape that came with it gnawed through and tore easily. I was a bit disappointed with how rickety it was once built, it definitely wasn't moved much. You can easily square it if you are not very careful. The bottom of the enclosure doesn't actually touch the ground (it's on the raised edge). So be careful not to use heavy substrates or sand as the soil is very thin and can easily get hot and sag in the middle. We had to build a base for this with a middle support underneath. The lid does not allow insight and does not provide adequate ventilation for pets such as mice (urine vapor builds up too quickly). The lid is also quite heavy and doesn't stay open on its own. So if you put it directly against a wall, the lid can't stay open more than 90 degrees - be careful or you'll get hit. in the head if it accidentally closes while cleaning or tipping. The hinges holding the lid are very weak where they connect to the sides, and when you lift the lid from one side (as opposed to grabbing the middle and lifting), it twists and turns easily . The lid needed to be a lot lighter, with a lot more ventilation. Overall, it's good value for such a large cage (it's attractive, and Plexiglas can be expensive on its own), but I definitely wouldn't buy it again. For the same price we could build a much more powerful one. But if you need something quick and easy that you never move, for a little hamster that can't chew and can't climb into the big gaping hole at the top and run away, then this is a good cage and it suits you needs very well. Overall I'm a bit disappointed with how fragile it is as I'm a big fan of Niteangel products and it didn't live up to my expectations. I will have no hesitation in purchasing Niteangel products in the future and encourage you to follow her Instagram for great cell customization and inspiration.
