Heat is the enemy of electronics. I admit that I don't know if cooling pads are really necessary for modern devices or if the developers have sufficiently compensated for the temperature rise. I used them when my old 17" Dell had overheating issues. Add in a modem that's uncomfortably hot to the touch and a Roku flash drive that will definitely shut down without blowing the fan. So, as cheap as the fan pads are, by default I just mount all devices, including routers and VOIP devices that are either always on or on for a long time, on one. I have several of these pads in different sizes. from several manufacturers. At top speed, this Aicheson pad moves as much air as any other, including the Cooler Master. As a fool for LEDs, particularly the RGB variant, the interior lighting is attractive, although the model I received only has red LEDs (consistent with the description above), despite the packaging saying RGB. Since any lighting is blocked by the device on it, the presence or absence of lighting on the pillow does not matter. No manual included, but with the caveat that you'll need to be smarter than tech first, a few instructions at the bottom of the box should do the trick. It comes with a very short USB-A male-to-male cable for connecting to a power source. The one I received had a non-working fan, which upon closer inspection turned out to be a piece of sticky foam that appeared to be left over from the building process. I was able to unscrew and remove it without disassembling the gasket and now all the fans work fine. In operation, the stand is almost silent, even at the highest settings. Overall I think this is a well designed and inexpensive cooling pad worth considering.
