Review on Simplicity Adjustable Plastic Sock Loom Kit: Convenient 4pc Set for Easy Sock Crafting by Kelsey Brown

Sock weight should be light

Why I bought it: Arthritis started about the same time I was learning to knit, it doesn't really bother me except when using size 2.5 needles or smaller to knit socks . . Holding thin needles while maintaining tension is too difficult for my fingers in most cases. This loom claims to work with yarns that require size 2 needles. I already have several yarns from cotton/ribbon to wool socks that require a size 2 in the closet as the arthritis has gotten too bad. I hoped this would allow me to use them. For many years I have been knitting hats, scarves and blankets on standard size looms, the technique is the same, only the sock loom gets smaller with less needle spacing. The handle holds the loom very well and the hook is held in a modified crochet handle so there is less pressure on the joints. Although I've read negative reviews about the drawer part either not moving or coming out too easily, so far mine has worked exactly as intended. It stays in place while I work and comes out with a slight pop when flipped. Almost impossible to miss. The pins don't move unless you go from loops so tight you snap the yarn when you pick it up, to loops so loose they wrap around your stitches and are even. Cons: - The protective front plastic piece was missing from the packaging. There are dots of glue in the packaging to keep it in place, but there was no plastic itself. Thankfully, not a single detail was missing. But it may have helped with scam #2, which involved stress marks at the base of half the pins. Clear stress lines are visible on the plastic, which eventually lead to the failure of the product. Since the packaging itself was not crushed or creased, the storage pressure could not have been too great and the plastic was still damaged. You need to replace someone's printer. The print was small and slightly smudged. If you already know how to knit on the loom this won't be a big problem, but if you've never twisted your heel on a sock loom like I have, then you'll need an aspirin on hand for a headache, you'll learn, you to concentrate. in words.-Instructions. Let's start with the size chart and keep in mind that this is a sock loom using fine yarn designed for #2 needles. Daughter's foot measures 6.5 around the ball and is 7 inches long. Judging by the girth, not the length, the children's height is average. I used stretch cotton sock yarn on size 2.5 needles. After the heel twist, there was enough calf to go through the loom and reach its unstretched size to see there was a problem. The calf is a size 6.5 as it should be to fit her leg which should be fine. But the density is 5 stitches per inch. The gap between Vs is quite large, the toe appears ribbed and light is clearly visible through the gaps. After seeing that I played a few rows with the string super tight and then super loose and the effect wasn't noticeably different. And because the cotton-blend composition is elastic, after normal tension it stretches enough to fit another half of the foot, so it quickly loses its shape on active days. You need heavier yarn. The dk wool yarn used later looked perfect with perfect tension. It was a much thicker yarn than the recommended sock weight. In general, I am satisfied that I have a sock loom. Now I know that if I want to know how many pins I really need per person, I have to weave a thickness sample for each yarn, even if the pins never change. I can handle it. If the spacing between pins is standard on all sock looms, I don't see how buying a more expensive rig will help. It only got three stars because the list of scammers far outweighed the list of pros, and while I'll work with the biggest one (the last one on the list), it doesn't work as advertised. I agree with this point because I couldn't even make thicker winter socks without it because I had to juggle small DPNs. I'm just sorry I can't use all the nice socks I have.
