I'm a 3D photo and video shooter and managed to snag the J1 and J2 at great prices here at Revain. One was "used" and the other was "refurbished", but the used one turned out to be actually new, in the original packaging. Initially I thought I would mainly use them as a lightweight pair (compared to larger cameras) for 3D photography. But now I use any camera for high quality point and shoot and for old fashioned 2D. The image quality is definitely better than my Canon SX1 and with interchangeable lenses these cameras are much more than just point and shoot. Low light sensitivity is also much better than the SX1 (or SX-nn range equivalent), although not as good as the much larger sensor. lightweight and dynamic range characteristics but with the convenience of a small size. The lens is correspondingly smaller and cheaper. If you want to travel light but still get performance that's closer to that of a mirrorless or high-end DSLR, it's convenient and fun to use. I just can't beat the performance for a camera this size. The only issue I've had with Nikon 1 cameras is Nikon's lack of manual focus assist. I use a variety of lenses on these cameras, including vintage Minolta manual lenses and Super 16mm film lenses. Manual focus via the LCD usually works well, but sometimes the focus assist can help. (Both the SX1 and Lumix GH2, for example, zoom in on a small portion of the image so you can see it clearly.) But that's actually a minor issue and only applies if you're using "other lenses". When using Nikkor lenses, autofocus is very fast and accurate. I love the colors and contrast that Nikon 1 cameras have by default and have now even adjusted the settings in my 3rd party cameras :) I shoot pretty much everything in RAW and edit my images in Lightroom. Note: If you prefer an eye finder over an LCD only version, consider the V1, V2 or V3 versions. As for the orange color of the H2 - well, I don't care about the color. But I get weird looks from people who seem to think I'm carrying a kid's toy camera or something!
