My 35-year-old oven was taking longer and longer to heat up and I had to increase the cooking time in recipes by around 10%. I decided it was time to replace the item. The only tool needed was a wrench. I turned off the circuit breaker in the kitchen and confirmed it by the fact that the oven light didn't come on when I opened the door. Using a flashlight, I loosened the two nuts securing the element to the back of the stove and carefully pulled the element out a few inches. This exposed the power cable connectors. After I mark the orientation of the black and white wires, they are also separated with a wrench. Then the element is terminated. At this point I took the opportunity to carefully clean the bottom of the oven so nothing gets in the way. I did the reverse to install. After everything was zipped up, I replaced the racks and turned on the oven at 400 for 10 minutes to burn off the factory coating on the element (with the kitchen fan running on high to get rid of the fumes). It shines much brighter than the old one! Now the oven heats up very quickly and baking goes much faster.
