Review on SheaMoisture Foamless Shave Gel for Men - Tea Tree Oil and Shea Butter Shaving Gel with 6 oz of Shea Butter by Nancy Russell

Good shaving gel, best for men

UPDATE: Not sure why this product has recently doubled in price. It was hard to justify at $8, impossible at $16. It took me a while to decide if I liked this stuff or not. I used to always use shaving cream, shaving soap or foaming shaving gel (spray). So it took me a while to get used to it before I could form an opinion on it. The first thing to understand is NO foam gel! It seems many of the less satisfied reviewers don't get this. It's not entirely fair to put it on a product if you don't know or pay attention to the difference between foamy and non-foamy. It has a pleasant smell and perfectly lubricates the skin for shaving. I get a lot fewer scratches and cuts than I used to and have no razor bumps at all since switching to this gel. This makes it very easy to see where you shaved and how well you shaved. The only downside is that I wish the gel was a bit thicker. It's actually quite runny/watery which I think leads to using more than I need as it tends to run off my wet face a bit. If it were thicker it would be really good and I think it would have been a 5 star product at the time, or at least a 4 star product. But since shaving gel is already a bit pricey, the fact that it's so thin you're wasting it every time is definitely a downside. However, this is the best product I have found without spending a ridiculous amount. UPDATE: I wanted to go through this review again because a few things have changed. Firstly, I think they changed the formula a bit since writing this review. Now it's a bit thicker than before and less transparent. It used to be almost completely transparent, now it's more of a blur. Another thing that has changed is that I have started shaving in the shower which has changed my life as I no longer arch my back over a low (for tall people) tub. Bathroom sink. However, that means the thinness of this shaving gel is even more annoying as it doesn't really stick to the skin very well, especially in a humid shower environment. While it's a bit thicker now, it's not enough to really make a difference. It's still too watery and doesn't stay on the skin. I use almost double what I estimate I should because it expires/expires so I have to apply more. Considering how expensive it is, wasting them because they are too flimsy is a pretty big problem.

Pros
  • High marks for hold and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
