Review on Rectorseal 45302 Freeze Leak Repair: Stop Leaks with 0.5 Oz of Red Power! by Daniel Espinoza

bad for small fridges.

I have an under cabinet wine cooler with a leak that holds 1.4 oz 134a. I charged it and it stayed cool for about 2 weeks before getting hot again. It's 1/2 ounce, the instructions say don't use more than 10% of the system's total charge, which is just over 1/8 ounce, or about 1/4 of a vial. This may work if your system uses 3.75-5 ounces of coolant (because 1/4 of the product stays in the supply hose), but otherwise. Here are the problems. It's messy, difficult to control, and doesn't even work at very high dosages. The supply hose holds approximately 1/8 ounce (that's 25% of product waste). You must fill the hose before connecting it. At the end of the tubing that connects to the syringe there has to be some kind of check valve - so you really have to squeeze the plunger to make it work - then it squirts everywhere and you've wasted half an ounce. (Here's a tip, I've seen people put it in a caulking gun so it goes up the side, but it can also help control small debris in the pipe.) Then a slow leak system would be negative. Pressure on the low side so the system sucks it in the minute you open the valve - no control over the amount added so 1/2 was added before I could close the valve. (I could probably glue 2 small washers onto the cylinder to hold the piston in the correct position, something to consider if your system uses less than 6-7 ounces of refrigerant). Finally, the slow leakage was not remedied because after 2 weeks I was back at 70 degrees with a wine cooler despite unwanted double dosing. Today I added the rest, the last 1/8 oz, to the system hoping that the second dose will be enough and I'll let you know, but I wouldn't buy this product again. I would recommend a few things to someone considering buying this product. Buy a large dose. More than you think you'll need as 1/4 of the product goes into the tube at both ends (1/8 ounce to fill the tube and 1/8 ounce remaining in the tube when the plunger fully depressed).
