The really nice thing about this grater is that it clicks into place during use. I have tiles on the shelves and they fit a square, which made me very happy. Once locked, this thing doesn't move. I use this for a variety of things, cheese, veggies and even some fruit for slicing. The blades on this grater are very sharp so I'm very happy that it comes with a lid which also helps to mash whatever you're chopping or chopping through. To lock in place, simply rotate the dial sideways to the dial. When doing this, I simply held the grater upside down and this ensures that the grater does not move when the dial rotates. When it comes to cleaning, I may or may not do a lot of cleaning depending on what I'm cutting or chopping. I wash mostly by hand and that's it. The blades are still sharp after a month, no rust or cracks.
