If you've never used any of these systems before, you understand one thing: it's more of a training device than a restraint system. It takes a few weeks of work to teach your dog to respect the boundaries you have set for them, but with a little work they will do it, and you will want a dog in every house for the rest of your life where you live. This can be a lengthy process depending on how well your dog adapts to and "gets" the training. As soon as you start collaring your dog and he goes into shock for the first time, you should be there to call him back and praise him for staying close. Again, it takes time, but you will learn. Finally, after a few weeks, remove the flags as the dog will know where the line is and know not to be challenged. Bottom Line: Take the time to read the instructions, follow the training instructions and this system will work every time. I once saw my dog outside looking at people, other dogs, even a rabbit and he would NOT cross that line. Even if I forget to put the collar on he stays in the yard, this system helped him define the boundaries of his territory which ultimately makes him much happier.
