Not a bluetooth speaker, not a hi-fi system, but something in between. I tested the TUK against the Klipsch 5 and the Audio Engine HD6 and I liked the TUK the best. I tested them with a turntable connected via Bluetooth and USB to a laptop streaming Hi-Res files from Amazon Music HD. Klipsch 5 - The bass was loose, incoherent and too loud. At low to medium volume, they sounded good. Hooked up to an Audio Technica LP60 turntable, the Klipsch 5 sounded better than the TUK when using the onboard Klipsch phono stage. All in all, Klipsch did a great job with the vocals and horns. Fives look really good. After getting them back it seemed to me that I might need to update the firmware to allow for other bass settings - these things are supposed to have built in tone controls. TUK: They actually sounded pretty decent. Very clean and the bass is much more musical than the Klipsch. Ribbon tweeters were of high quality. With large volumes, the TUK began to wear out. The phono amp was good but maybe a little behind the Klipsch as the Klipsch had a nice "warmth". I have NOT tried pairing them with a subwoofer but that would make for a great little stereo system. If you live in an apartment where a subwoofer is connected to the TV and a turntable, you will be very satisfied. My comments above don't quite tell the whole story, but TUK is (IMO) a real step up from Klipsch and the HD6.Audio Engine HD6 Sound Engine. They also sounded good, but without the phono stage. After many hours of listening I figured they were for computer speakers that you don't drive much. As far as I could tell, the sound quality was a bit worse than the TUK. They lacked a sound stage. The TUK are excellent speakers, enough to fill most living rooms. I just wish they looked a little cooler. By the way, I ended up spending $5,000 on a better Hi-Fi system. For simple setups, I'd suggest either the $799 TUK plus a $289 subwoofer for $1,100 in Spring 2021, or the $2,500 KEF ls50 W and see if high-definition streaming comes on KEF works for you. KEF in my description as the three above are in a similar price range)
