The Only Skunk Remedy

I've heard all the folklore and tried just about every remedy you can think of for a skunk sprayed pet. Trust me, this is the ONLY way that actually works. After the skunk family moved into our backyard, we enjoyed the thrill of the 2am skunk crisis twice a week throughout the summer. Both dogs have repeatedly received direct beatings from enemies, most notably in July under the full moon when the little black-and-white striped terrorists were in the midst of their nefarious activities. other brands of skunk sprays - they were all "guaranteed" - and probably every other folk remedy that could be found on google after numerous deep dives, and to our great dismay our dogs became saturated with the suffocating smell of burnt rubber, concentrated skunk funk for days after meetings. If you've ever tried to disinfect a dog that was hit so badly by a skunk that the monster left a giant yellow stain on your pet's fur at 2am, you'll find you never get used to the smell and such. A concentrated skunk spray will always cause dryness and severe headaches after prolonged exposure. At this point, you'll suddenly realize how important it is to have a genuine product on hand that will quickly and effectively remove most of the odor. Skunk-Off in the trigger spray was a godsend for us. Not only does the liquid quickly tap and eliminate odors, but a large spray bottle allows you to soak the affected area quickly and easily. No more dry sighs, no more angry neighbors woken up in the wee hours by raging F-bombs, no more stumbling, drooling pets maimed by the tail cannon of America's most feared chemical warrior beast. We always carry at least one 32oz bottle (remember: you can't use one if you don't have one!), which a 16oz bottle must use to deal with a direct hit at close range. You never know when your pet will become skunked, and chances are it will happen at the worst possible time. Stock up before this happens and save yourself heartache. (By the way, if you're ill-prepared and are facing a skunk crisis with no Skunk-Off in hand, we've come up with a folk remedy that works really well: Apply Dawn dish soap, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide to : Dissolve a box of baking soda in a liter of warm water and set aside. Rinse the animal with a garden hose. Wear rubber gloves and apply a large amount. Go over the treated areas and lather well. Use a mixture of baking soda and water to rinse off leftover dish soap and skunks Rinse again with clean water Repeat if necessary Flush affected area with hydrogen peroxide Stay in place for a few minutes Rinse animal well with clean water BE EXTREME BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET THESE MATERIALS IN YOUR PET'S EYES OR INSIDE THE EARS! ) d earning your pet's ability, so please don't kill them. After two explosions, our only dog learned to avoid skunks and was not sprayed for a very long time; the other never seems to understand the connection between skunks and spraying, and he still has an amazing talent for spraying straight in the snout at close range. All of which means please do not kill skunks (but remember they can transmit rabies). Skunks can be effectively caught alive and moved when they are a nuisance. You or a wildlife specialist can do this if you wish or if you have extra money. The best defense is to make your property unattractive to skunks. You can find out how to do this via Google. Much luck!
