I don't know why there are so many weird reviews about difficult use, bad product, inefficiency etc. I'm a retired chemical engineer with a lot of experience with desiccants. Sodium silicate is the easiest and safest desiccant to use. A little knowledge of high school chemistry will tell you this (if you're into science). The product was well packaged and ready to use (dry). A little light looking through the window at the dehumidifier will show you the color; With no ambient light, the color is very difficult to see through a very small window. The desiccant can be regenerated at a relatively low temperature (250-275F or so). Testing this by adding liquid water and then heating to assess recovery can lead to uncomfortable and/or dangerous results, especially at temperatures above the recommended maximum. Unless you understand basic high school chemistry or physics (or common sense), don't use anhydrous sodium silicate. COUNTING!
