I removed the foam "protective backing" so you can see the deformed piece of plastic in the aluminum rail. There is a weak magnet at each end. The plastic in the center is deformed so both sides of the magnet cannot sit flush with a flat surface. It was properly packed, read: no damage in transit. Sent deformed. It's hard plastic and won't bend straight. Even when lying flat, the magnet isn't strong enough to hold more than a pair of mini pliers when attached vertically to a metal surface. It might keep things from shifting when placed on the bottom of a metal box, but I wouldn't count on it. I suppose you could drill it into the wall but the screws will last longer than the plastic tubes for the handles.
