Review on 🐈 K&H PET Products: Outdoor Kitty House Cat Shelter – Weatherproof and Cozy Haven for Your Feline Friend by Amy Kearse

Bought over a year and a half ago and about a few months ago, planning to write a mediocre 2-3 star review on it. We got it when one of our adopted semi-feral cats was weaned from the house because she couldn't tell the difference between the carpet, some furniture and a closet. We were mad at her but didn't want her to freeze next winter. So we got this pillow house and I built a wooden stand for it to lift it off the porch floor for her. Result: nada - she would not come close to him. We nailed the doors shut, tried to feed her in, but she avoided, well, . . . like a cat transporter, she has to ride along on their hateful trips to the vet. (He REALLY looks like a porter). So we gave in, and she spent last winter on a cardboard box that rose about 4 feet from the porch at one end. It seemed normal, with winter nights swaying a few degrees to one side or the other due to being frozen. Then I discovered that she started going into the cat house, but only during the day and not at night?! So when we did 2+2 we came to the conclusion that this wasn't the cat transport aspect of the house; Instead, she didn't feel safe indoors at night on a wooden platform just 16 inches off the ground. We live in the deep forest and from time to time dogs, raccoons, squirrels, crows, skunks and stray cats come to us. It's a porch if we don't want to escape them. So their logic made sense. To soften things up, last summer I built a cat high-rise tower for her out of some 2 x 4s and plywood (see photo) and put the house all the way up where she would feel safe. Result: She is now indoors all the time and seems to enjoy it. FYI: The floor of the house is on a shelf about 6 feet off the ground. cornered on the porch and has further levels for warming and eating. It wasn't rocket science. Cats climb HIGH when scared. They love being in a tree on top of your expensive house. Curtains or on an antique piano, photos topple over when something scares them. When we moved them in, everything matched the K&H house. If your cat blows it off first, consider placing it somewhere high off the ground or floor and you may get better results. We did.
