Well designed, well made. I would use the bolted version, but rear access poses a problem in my particular case. As with anything that is glued in place in any vehicle (mine is on a subcompact console - plastic - sitting in the Mexican sun) , surface preparation is everything. . Here's what I did: I rubbed the area with a plain green paint to remove the oils. Then I drew the outline of the page on the console. Then I sanded the area inside the outline with 120 grit sandpaper until the shine was gone. Then wipe the area with 90% alcohol. Finally, I dabbed the area with a rag soaked in acetone - this prepares the plastic for perfect adhesion to the glue. Finally, I glued the adhesive disk and mounted it on top. Since it's on a fairly flat surface, I put a sandbag on top to help with installation. Then I left it alone for 24 hours. 48 would have been better, but I wanted to get out on the water. The mount worked perfectly to hold both a small camera and a Garmin GPS (not both). I hit hard a few times while walking past the console - no problem. The connection between ball and pad is well done. I am very happy with this product and am ordering two more - one for a car dashboard and the other for a sailboat. If you can access the back of what you plan to mount the ball on, consider a model with screw holes and use nuts and bolts to get it right.
