The button on the back of the holder allows one-handed operation. That's nice. It's quite obvious that they only had vertical use in mind when designing it. The two phones in the picture are S9 (mid-size phone) and Note 8 (large phone). We only travel with horizontal phones so the extra weight hanging from the right side of both holders causes the phones on the right side to slide out and create a twisting motion on both hands. The clamping mechanism compresses the phone by about a third on the left side of the S9 and only a quarter on the left side of the Note, so the weight is A LOT off-center. In addition, the clips open just wide enough to accommodate the note (with case). They really should have made the two "legs" adjustable (or foldable) so you could center your phone in the mount, but that's not the case. They are embedded in plastic. I'll cut them off to allow the phone's weight to be balanced between the grips and I think they'll work fine. The suction cup is made of clear soft plastic, not sticky soft rubber. My experience with these types of suction cups is that they usually last about a year and then get hard from the sun and start to fail. This seems like the perfect mount when the driver needs to use one mount for the GPS and the passenger wants to use the other side for entertainment. I really want to use it on our next trip!
