This is the first time my cats have seen a cardboard scratching post. It is made of high quality cardboard, thick and durable. When cats sharpen their claws, there aren't that many of them (they don't fall apart). I was afraid the "scraper" would tip over as both of my boys are over 10 pounds, but that didn't happen. Both parts are in very good condition after a few months of use. I'm happy with that. PS Not only does it serve its purpose but one of my cats especially loves it and uses it as a bed.
