If you are looking for 100% white sand this is not the product for you. This sand is mostly white, but the mica particles give it a "salt and pepper" appearance, which while nice is probably not what most people looking for white sand are looking for. I was looking for some white, natural sand (not one of those waterproof aquarium sands) and since it's pretty hard to find in small quantities I thought I might be able to get the mica bits out of it. After a few minimally successful attempts with a fine mesh colander, I figured the only way to really get rid of any grey/shiny stains was to go over them almost piece by piece, which wasn't worth the effort. I store and use this sand as I originally intended (as a base in my incense burner), but once I'm through with all of this I'll be looking elsewhere for white sand.
