I personally use them for pins, subscription box buttons, video game collectibles, events I've attended. More for buttons than pins given the two vertical cutouts in the slot. I wish there was a third center pin slot. For pens: When you insert it into the slots provided, it may be off-center depending on the size/shape of your stylus. The fabric is too thick for the needles to pierce the center unless you apply force to it. Make sure you have a thimble handy if you plan to do this so you don't stab yourself. It would be great if it had a fabric divider when you fold it up for transport/storage. The first fold has a button/contact on a button/pin contact. In general it can be a problem to make contacts, but it's worth it as a display/organization goal in the end.
