Perfect for 2-3 players but everyone enjoyed the rule change

I still like Gin Rummy more but it's not a bad game for 2 players. In fact, I would think two or three would be more fun than four. There are 52 letter tiles in the game and each player starts with ten. So two players have 32 letters in the deck and four players only have 12. With two players we get a longer game and I think it's more useful. I think some of the rules are very "loose". There are situations that are not covered by the rules. And then, of course, the players can have age or education differences. We had to keep an open mind in our early rounds, lest we abandon the game in frustration when we stumble into some unexpected situations. After playing about ten games we changed the rules a bit and added some simple ones of our own to make the game smooth and interesting. The process was very rewarding! When we had four people ready to play, we agreed to remove the most experienced player and make him some sort of overseer. We even let Taskmaster hold a placeholder and create a word when everyone else is "stuck". If grandparents enjoy playing games to keep their brains sharp, this could be a great sock for grandkids - just the right size to fit inside the sock and not break the bank.
