I learned so much from this book

Before I got this book I was just a knitter. I wasn't even like that - I was just a stocking girl with garters. My crazy knitting idea was a wicker potholder, and even that made me nervous. But in a crazy moment I told my sister that I would make this blanket for her unborn son. This baby is 5 now and I haven't finished the blanket yet but what I have looks great! I did 11 blocks and learned so much! I can yarn over, make stitches and knit and purl! I can make surcharges and deductions! I can do tops, braids and additions! And it wasn't scary! I would just choose a square for which I needed to learn a new skill, and then I googled and found a video, or asked a knitting friend, or went to my local yarn store. And when I had completed this square, I had mastered a new ability. So helpful! And I love that you never get bored. I was dropping future afghan shawls to make them into very, very, very long scarves because I just got bored with the pattern (which wasn't really a pattern because I was just changing stockinette and garter, remember? ). But you will never get bored with these squares. Also, the design template you use can be transferred to other projects - for example I can take the lace pattern I got from this book and use it, to brighten up an otherwise vanilla colored scarf. Or use one of the whimsical basket weaves to make (another) kitchen towel! So this book is more than a pattern for a blanket. This is a great knitting class that will help you become bolder and more creative. But I like how Afghan comes out. I just have to make a square and then learn how to crochet. You have to crochet the edges of each square and then, after some mathematical magic that scares me more than a Fair Isle sweater, sew the blocks together. But now I'm taking a break to work on a scarf and some hats. . But I promise you because I promised my sister that this quilt will be ready when my nephew gives it to his firstborn before he graduates from college.
