It worked, but not as hard and dry, although it did work in the end.

A new print head solved the problem. However, the cost of a new printhead (plus new ink cartridges) was $200. I could buy a brand new printer for about $200. The reason I decided to try the printhead was that I needed a very quick solution to print important documents right away and installing a new printer would take a lot more time and effort. So I spent a ridiculous amount of money to try it. What I should add is that I gave "Easy to Install" "3" not because of the actual installation process. But after installing a new printhead the printer (HP) went into auto alignment mode but did nothing. After more than an hour I decided to turn off the printer and try again. Wouldn't let me turn off. Continued to get an HP message saying "Maintenance" is in progress and cannot be interrupted. Well, nothing happened for an hour. I turned off my computer but the printer stayed on. Finally, after restarting the computer, I opened the door to the printhead and ink cartridge area. (Which I did a couple of times while the printer was still in "on" mode just to see if the alignment process would begin.) But this time I pressed the off button (no-no for HP) and the printer turned off. Hooray! After restarting the printer, the actual reconfiguration process finally began :-) and when that was complete, my printer was up and running again! Did it cost $200? Not really (although new ink was included). I would recommend just buying a new printer unless you can find a MUCH cheaper printhead replacement part. Oh, and by the way, forget to get it from the HP website.
