Easier than you think!

I used this shade to cover two sliding glass doors in my townhouse. Each sheet is big enough to cover a sliding door, so I ended up buying four. A few tips I learned after doing this four times: 1. DO NOT BUY THE INSTALL KIT. You just don't need it. A spray bottle filled with water and a few drops of dish soap is great for the solution you need. I also bought a 12 inch scraper for a few dollars at my local grocery store. I have used it for both cleaning and application. I've seen advice on using a credit card to remove blisters. Why use 3" when you can use 12"? (she said) 2. CLEAN THE GLASS VERY WELL. If you have a razor blade (like a box opener), run the edge over the glass and remove anything that might be stuck. You may not see this spot now, but you will definitely see it after applying the foil. 3. MEASURE, MEASURE AND MEASURE AGAIN. Amount must be taken from the length and width. It's easier to measure and mark what is NOT needed than to measure what is needed. Depending on how confident you are in your measurements, add an extra 1/8-1/4" for each measurement. 4. DO NOT USE A RAZOR BLADE TO MAKE THE FIRST TIME CUTS. You will only be frustrated and may encounter obstacles and create roughness at this edge. The film is quite thick and you will need a very sharp razor to get it cleanly cut.Use scissors instead to trim off the excess. After taking my measurements I marked the line with a mark and a straight edge and just followed that when I cut them. Much easier. lower part that needs to be cut off when you start squeezing out the bubbles, pay attention to the top as it tends to sag a bit slipping down because it's moving on the slippery working fluid I don't, and I don't think you need one, but if you have someone to hold the lid it becomes true probably no harm.6. LET'S SIT. Before you get excited and start trimming to finish the job, let it sit for a few hours. This way you can see if the movie is moving at all and make adjustments accordingly. Mine didn't move, but who knows. Waiting also allows the film to "stick" to the glass better.7. USE A SHARP RAZOR TO FINISH. If I had to do it all over again I would use a planer knife to make the final cut. I used a utility knife and it worked, but I think a utility knife allows for better finishing. You may also find that you don't have to trim it at all and you can just pin it in place with a ruler. Be sure to use that straight edge to hold the film and guide the razor for the final cut. And that's it. A few final comments on this. The foil is dark outside and nothing can be seen inside during the day. I even turned on all my lights and stood outside and still couldn't see anything unless I stood right by the window and put my hands over my eyes. The black color of the film makes the reflection of the glass more visible and that's all you see. You look back at yourself You can see it at night but it's still dark. From the inside it just looks like a cloudy day with a hint of ocher depending on the sun exposure. Overall I'm very happy with the results and can't wait to see how it performs in Florida this summer. Warmth.
