Review on πŸ”Š iHome iW3 AirPlay Wireless Audio System - Black OPEN BOX (Rechargeable) by Megan Ramirez

Bought a second good for portable speakers and docking stations

After a satisfying experience with our first speaker we bought a second for our living room. The devices are of high quality and the sound quality is more than sufficient. We keep ours plugged in for the most part, but a basic charger/AC adapter is fantastic and we get around 3 hours of battery life. As in the first case, the installation wasn't as easy as it could be. Connecting to the iPhone and transferring the network settings did not work. I downloaded the iHome app (Method #2) and did it with no problems. As a family with a number of Apple devices, we definitely prefer the convenience of Airplay Bluetooth. Maybe at 30 feet and through a wall or two, I don't think we're really extending the Wi-Fi range. However, we never have network interruptions. An important note for those thinking about streaming to multiple Airplay devices. Apple does not support this yet. It's weird and frustrating. There are some workarounds. An app called The Whale lets you stream music and playlists stored on your iOS device to multiple Airplay speakers. However, Whaale doesn't work with Pandora or other streaming sources (i.e. you can't stream yet). A program called Airfoil is available for Mac or Windows that can mirror the output from an iPhone or iPad (including Pandora, iTunes Radio, etc.) to multiple Airplay speakers. But you have to keep your computer/laptop running and airfoil running, so it's an awkward deal breaker. Also, it costs $25. We use Whaale when we need sound in multiple rooms. This works fine, but I want Apple to figure out what's stopping you from selecting multiple Airplay speakers in iOS.
