Review on Thermo Tec 16800 Kevlar Muffler Cover by Devin Jirsa

I bought this product to wrap my Ferrari 360 muffler. In the photo in the advertisement and on the box you can see that it is wrapped around the muffler. The enclosed instructions confirm the intended use and correct installation. Spring. I think my Ferrari exhaust needs to get hotter than this one. For the first few hours, use a blanket that constantly smokes when "cooked". The silver foil finish quickly lost its luster and looked dull and mottled. Then, over the next few hours, the silver foil coating throughout the engine compartment completely dissolved into small flakes. What was left of the Kevlar webbing underneath was dark brown/black. The center section was completely burned down, leaving only the mesh screen. I was able to easily tear it off by hand leaving only the clips. The muffler underneath was now stained and discolored where the foil met. Good news? I contacted Thermo Tec and told them my story. I received an apology and a full refund. In hindsight I should have used this product as a heat shield, insulating items next to the muffler rather than directly on top of the muffler. I think an air gap would be enough to extend the life of this product.
