Simply put, this system does what it says on the tin. No hassles, no complications, no misleading information. This is my first mesh setup and it really couldn't be more fluid. My experience so far has been fantastic and I would recommend this system to anyone who needs to fill WiFi dead zones or just wants to improve coverage and manage their network more easily. My environment: - I need to replace an ASUS RT-AC87U AC2400 because an antenna breaks and causes coverage issues. - 4 story home with just over 1,000 feet per floor for a total of 4,000 square feet. - Home office on the 1st floor, a media company room on the 4th floor and about 30 smart devices scattered in between - Shentel Cable Service @ 150 Mbps. - The ISP modem is set up as a simple bridge using the Rock Space mesh as a wireless gateway. - Various devices including Xbox One, iPhone, iPad, Alexa & Dots, Ring products, smart thermostats, etc. can attest from my installation: - The app is really easy to use and has many features and options. I really like being able to set up/control/configure my network from my phone instead of having to plug my laptop into my gateway. The entire setup for 3 knots took me about 20 minutes, but basically I was going through the different floors and waiting. so that they are automatically synchronized with the main gateway. When setting up the first gateway node, I was asked if I wanted to use a different SSID than the default SSID (marked at the bottom of the nodes), so I named it exactly like my old network and gave it the exact same password . The hope was that I wouldn't have to reconfigure the 30 or so smart devices, but would automatically reconnect as soon as the network became visible again. Surprisingly, it worked exactly as I had hoped! Once all the nodes were connected and I restarted the network, everything in the house was reconnected to the next node. I didn't have any connection problems. No one. I'm still shocked that it worked so easily. I placed one node at the ISP's modem on the 2nd floor, one node in the basement and the last one on the 3rd floor. These 3 nodes covered all 4 floors from top to bottom with no dead zones. This is a dual band system with 3 separate nodes but still only appears as one SSID. I no longer have to choose between 2G and 5G, the mesh does it automatically, depending on which has the strongest signal. I have 2G and 2G/5G devices and they all connect perfectly. I saw an "Assist" option in the app to force a switch to 2G when connected, but I didn't need to use it. The app shows which node each device is connected to and which band each device is using. I am using port forwarding in an application for 2 gaming systems and both work as expected. After a few days I figured I'd add another knot on the 4th floor just because it had the smallest ground cover. Unfortunately I couldn't find individual units for sale anywhere so I had to buy a whole new 3 piece set. Adding another node was as simple as clicking "Add Node" in the app and scanning the 2D barcode at the bottom of the new node. I ended up adding a fifth node so I could treat it as a direct cable point (like a switch), but I only did that because I had an "extra"...it really wasn't necessary. My only complaint is that, as far as I can tell, you can't buy individual knots anywhere. They are only available in sets of 3. If you need/want to add another node, you have to shell out a lot of money for a complete second system. I hope this helps someone out there who might be on the fence!
