Review on Freewell Variable Filters Compatible Drone by Mazie Laporte

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Amazing drone filters

I expected a lot from them because they are Freewell. I use their VND for all my mirrorless cameras. So I gave these filters to my partner who owns the Air 2S. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get footage of him when we were shooting for a paying client but I can say the quality was amazing! I didn't even know there were ND variables for drones! That makes life a lot easier. As we flew around we started to get some cloud cover. So we just landed, and instead of removing the filter and adding a lower ND strength filter, we just rotated the filter slightly and in less than 5 seconds we were back up and flying. This is very important as on a client shoot that was a real estate shoot you have very limited time to get your shots, often less than an hour total. Every second that I can save counts. There is also fog cover. They say it's 1/4 but I felt like it was a little closer to 1/8 or maybe somewhere in between. It wasn't too strong, that's my opinion. He did a fantastic job of lightening the highlights a bit and giving the entire footage a nice cinematic look. This is a very important point here. Drones sharpen their frames by default. In my opinion too much. This misty finish softens the image a bit and makes it look so much better! I can only recommend these filters!
