I have a 2008 Nissan Versa. I programmed the keychain myself - no problem. I gave the key to the Nissan dealer. The dealer said he probably couldn't program my key. The dealer wanted $50 for a blank key. The dealer said the cost of key programming was $75. Said if he tried to program my key and it didn't work I would still have to pay $75. Since the key fob worked for me, I took the risk of taking the key. They were able to program my key so I didn't have to pay $50 for a dealer key. $50 saved. Never ask the retailer about the cost of the fob or the cost of having the retailer program the fob.
