Review on Goal Zero Boulder Monocrystalline Solar by Bill Pool

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Really good build quality, good value

People complain that Goal Zero panels are a rip off, but when you look at other comparable options, they actually cost less money than Renogy folding panels. Monocrystalline high-quality panels, solid aluminum body with reinforced corners, comfortable carrying handle, solid feet, waterproof junction box - all this creates a solid panel. It's not very light, but the folded format makes it easy to fold and carry. When I hooked it up to my Yeti 1000's MPPT input, I was able to squeeze out up to 70W in November (I think 80W is closer to what you can expect). Don't get carried away with flexible panels - they will fail quickly, while these rigid panels should perform well for 30-40+ years. A few downsides: - the carrying case is just a thin shell that doesn't open fully, the panels are on the outside so be careful - the stand has a solid angle of 45 degrees, but in New England we need closer to 60 in the winter degrees, so it's better to adjust (placing yoga blocks under each foot is a quick fix) - uses 8mm GZ cable, suitable for GZ Yeti as it has waterproof and strong connections, but you'll need adapters buy if using a different battery setup - cables are short, you will likely need 15ft extensions - I recommend combining 8mm plates. into an Anderson plug as this extension cord uses heavy gauge wires - expect high losses with 8mm extension cords
