Review on Fujifilm GFX 50S 51.4MP Mirrorless Medium Format Camera - Body Only by John Pound

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simple, stunning and well thought out, but not as versatile as a standard 35mm SLR/mirrorless camera.

I have to say that's all they promised. Image quality and dynamic range are amazing. Maybe it's because it's the first medium format camera I've personally used, but before that I couldn't afford to look at it. I have to agree that this isn't exactly a carry-on camera. Its ISO performance isn't as good as my D810 or A7rii, but I knew that before I bought it. I agree with most reviewers that this mode should be used in controlled lighting situations where there is little to no movement. As I primarily shoot portraits, the detail I found with this camera is incredible. I like how easy it is to set up the camera. The autofocus is excellent. The controls are easily accessible, setup is very easy, the menu systems are simple. Unlike A7rii, I don't have to search for what I want to change. So is it worth the price? If you plan to use it in the same way as 35mm I would say no. You can achieve a much wider range of use with a 35mm lens (DSLR/Mirrorless) than with this camera. But if you want to shoot in controlled conditions with very high resolution and impressive range, then yes. It just comes down to how much you need those little details for specific shots. This damn camera makes me look like I really know what I'm doing.
