I ordered this item for a house mouse I caught when it was a little baby. I know it sounds silly but I really loved this little guy - I named him Little Bit because he was so tiny, just like a little mouse. Fast forward: By design, the latch at the back of the cage is difficult to latch and can presumably open if an object is moved or the front door is opened. Which I think happened a few days ago. L'il Bit must have come out, although I haven't opened the tailgate (while driving) since I assembled the unit. Anyway, he's gone - and will be at the mercy of our cat, and my heart is broken. I loved the design - it's sturdy and durable and would have given it five stars before - but now I'm sitting here taking it apart because I don't have a pet anymore. (And I'm on the wrong side of 50, so you know I wasn't sloppy with my little friend.) I still recommend the cage itself, but be very careful with the latches on ALL the holes because they can be tricky . . And for your little furry friend, TAPE THE BACK DOOR IN STOCK! Ignore the "food plate" at the top of the stairs (the critters will take the food elsewhere anyway) and tape it in place. Don't make the mistake of trusting him like I do. Stupid bolt. What good is a quality cage that doesn't protect the occupant inside?
