It is exposed in a cardboard triangle. No plastic hose.
I suspect the silicon bronze TIG wire is fine but the picture of the blue plastic housing is misleading. No - the sticks were bare in a triangular cardboard box with paper at each end. There is no blue plastic tube as expected in Fig. $23.00 case. If you don't have extra coverage, they will get dirty and oxidize. Not in a plastic tube? Well, live and learn.
