Found a way to bypass the wiring.
Worked great. I'm not an electrician but I didn't want the wires to be visible. I pulled out the black and white wires, routed them through the wall and to the shelf bracket so I could run them horizontally in front of all the studs and behind our TV. I connected the black and white wires together and connected the cables with a smart connector (I bought from Revain for $8). I built floating shelves to hide the cables. Alexa turns them on and off for me.
