Review on πŸ”Œ UL Listed Brush Wall Plate: Cable Pass Through Insert for Clean Wire Management - 2 Pack, White by Billy Berry

Great cable management solution with connectors on the ends

I wasn't quite sure when I ordered this but this 'brush wall plate' was just what I needed. It's actually a two-piece assembly. The part with the brush has a front side the size of a designer switch or a designer socket. The second part is the outer plate, which bolts to the brush in the same way that a switch plate bolts to a light switch or outlet. The brush allows you to route a cable (e.g. an HDMI cable) with almost any type of connector on the end. The brush is then shaped around the cord to hide anything behind (like a hole in the wall). I actually ordered a second one after receiving the first. The first (but not the second for some reason) included instructions explaining how to mount this brushed wall plate using a low voltage mounting bracket. This works well and avoids using an electrical box if needed. In my case I routed the wires through a low voltage duct so I used a plastic junction box and the brushed wall plate assembly still worked great. I first unscrewed the outer plate from the inside of the brush (they are bolted together and appear to be one piece when they arrive). I then routed the wire through the brush and installed the brush onto the electrical box. Finally, I routed the wire through the center of the outer panel, reattached the outer panel to the brush (which was now attached to the electrical box) and voila, you're done. Before ordering this item I read a very critical review that advised against buying this item as it is not a split panel meaning that the cable can be pulled from the location (TV, cable box etc. ) must be separated to use this wall plate. . In my opinion, this review is completely wrong. This item has never claimed to be able to be installed without disconnecting the end of the cable. What makes it admirable is that it offers a much more attractive solution than a hole in the wall with a cable outlet. I'm very glad it's not a split panel as this wall panel looks much better than a split panel and is probably stronger too.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Doubtful
