I use oil sometimes pure and often mixed with soap and applied with a brush. Both options work great and keep me from cutting myself. VDH makes fantastic shaving products. I switched to a double-edged safety razor when Gillette decided to get into politics and have not looked back after what was a lot of ado about nothing argument as women seemed to blow themselves up. Safety razors offer a closer shave than multiple blades and take less time to get used to after a try or two. VDH's pre-shave and after-shave products are great for preventing and treating razor burn and generally smell nice too.
